Rottingdean, historic village

Reach by buses on their way to Saltdean, Peacehaven, Seaford and Eastbourne or walk from Brighton Marina on the undercliff walk.

Things to see: Grange Museum and Art Gallery (Festival exhibition is part of the Rottingdean art trail), Church (parts dating back to Norman times, Kipling Gardens (flint walled garden formerly part of Kipling’s house with rose, herb and woodland gardens with meandering paths through other herbaceous areas). There is a pitch and putt course on the edge of the village on the Downs and on the Downs behind the pitch and putt is the Beacon Hill Nature reserve. There are 3 tearooms and 5 pubs in the village.

Circular walk: There is a path which takes you from the seafront bus stop at the golf course past the windmill, across the Downs through the nature reserve and to a footpath on the right leading down to Court Ord Road. Go straight up Court Ord Road to the Falmer Road which is 4 houses south of ‘Downscot’. After visiting ‘Downscot’ (and Sara Hill’s Open house on Eley Drive) you can walk straight down the Falmer Road to Rottingdean Village (about ½ mile). From there you can take a bus towards Brighton or Eastbourne.

Parking: Parking on Court Ord Road (which gives you easy access to Downscot exhibition as well as Sara Hill’s Open house on Eley Drive) There is no parking on the Falmer Road.
